Pokedex Entry

Cocoonus armatus is a larval stage insect characterized by its hardened exoskeleton, which provides defense against potential predators while it undergoes metamorphosis. This species remains mostly stationary, often found clinging to the trunks of trees or nestled within foliage, where it relies on its camouflage to avoid detection. Although largely immobile, Kakuna can exhibit minor movements, particularly when threatened; it can extend a stinger-like structure that delivers a mild toxin, deterring smaller predators. The internal processes of development generate heat, making the exterior shell warm to the touch, indicating metabolic activity. Kakuna primarily feeds on the stored nutrients from its previous life stage, utilizing these reserves to fuel its transformation into an adult form. This species is an excellent example of convergent evolution, as its protective strategies parallel those of various other cocooning insects across different habitats.
